Yvette Juarez Ms.Lehmann English 2-1B 11 December 2019 My Opinion on “With Friends Like These” A wise person once said, “Anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you.” Dorothy Rowe, a psychologist, gives daily readers information about the true meaning of friendship. By reading this article, I learned the reasonwe become friends with people and what validation really means to us. As you read more about the article, you will notice that this is not meant for psychologists but for daily readers and entertainment. This article is a good read if you are just reading it to entertain yourself. I do not think it would be a useful source if you are writing a research paper because Rowe does not use anyone else’s information but her own. Rowe wrote this article from her own personal experience. Rowe’s writing style is very informal, and she likes to use first person pronouns.Although Rowe does not use research, she is qualified to inform people with a doctorate in psychology. Rowe’s main idea in this article is to tell readers why we become friends with people who validate us. Validation is an important thing to everyone. When you feel validated you choose to become friends with one another because you feel confident and comfortable with them. Rowe uses her organization to show how her points fit together. Her informal tone moves people smoothly through the paper. Her article is put together introducing the main claim right away and clarifying it once more in the paper’s conclusion. Rowe’s hook quickly drew me in because I was interested in learning what the psychology behind friendship was all about. She uses section titles, which I find useful and practical when a reader is wanting to know what they are going to read instead. Her transitions moved smoothly throughout each idea and topic. Overall Rowe’s organization was excellent! In my opinion Rowe’s decision with using section titles was extremely helpful. In conclusion, “With Friends Like These,” written by Dorothy Rowe, isuseful for telling readers why validation is the number one reason we become friends with others. This article is all based on Rowe’s professional experience, but it lacks outside research, anda bibliography. I believe that this article is great for basic information and for entertainment, but there is not enough information for an in-depth research paper. Article Review Reflection 1. Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific. First, we read both article, second, we had to pick one of the articles we liked and understood best, third, I created a pre-written layout of my paper, fourth, I created my rough draft, and after Ms.Lehmann corrected it, I started my final draft.
2. What qualifies this paper as an informative essay? What are the requirements for a review and how did you meet them? I think this paper qualifies as an informative essay because it informs readers about an article and if it is worth reading. The requirements for a review would be to site your sources, introducing my topic, revealing thesis to the reader. I met these requirements because I sited my sources, I introduced my topic, and explained my thesis.
3. What one piece of advice would you give someone writing a review for the first time? Why?Always read the article or story before you review and write a paper on it. If you do not know what you are talking about then your paper is going to make no sense.
